Zales Diamonds Has Disappointing Year

Following a lackluster year (fiscally) for the Zales Diamond Corp., Mary Forte, the company's president and chief executive officer resigned recently.

Forte, a retail veteran who joined the chain in 1994 as president of Gordon's Jewelers was president of the company since August 2002.

Zales has described its sales figures over the past year as disappointing, and the chain has closed 29 Baily Banks & Biddle stores as part of its shift designed to move its national brand into the upscale arena, and cut back on its sales events.

Barry G. recently blogged on this steady decline over here.

Maybe people are starting to realize that with a bit of homework there is far better quality diamonds and jewelry to be had out there at prices that are just as competitive.......

Maybe Zales would have a better year if they had better quality jewelry. My wife is on wedding ring number five because of diamonds falling out.Corporate is giving us the run around and people have been able to talk to have been very rude.

I totally agree with Francesco about the quality of Zales jewelry. I have a diamond bracelet and the diamonds have fallen out four times already. Constantly getting the run around and very rude people to talk with.

My fiance bought my ring Dec 10, 2006 (Past, Present, Future ring)retail for 2,499 a diamond was missing from the ring and my diamonds have fell out several times after that and the sales manager was very rude to us kept hanging up the phone on me had the diamonds replaced it took 9 weeks which the sales guy told us 4 wks. This place sucks I truly loved my ring when I first got it but never knew the nightmare of losing diamonds every other week. Right after I got my ring from the shop 2 weeks later another diamond fell out. I'm tired of this and I know more will fall out. good thing I have a warranty but my goodness it takes weeks for you to get your product back this is ridiculous PLEASE THINK BEFORE SHOPPING HERE *Zales Northlake Mall, NC* the manager there sucks and is very rude and nasty. we have spent so much money in this store not only from my ring but our wedding bands and a Movado watch. And to get treated like this its just the worst. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE NOT ZALES.

I went to the Zales in Camarillo ,Ca. And had a awesome experience. The store manager was so helpful and pleasent.I will always go back to the Zales in Camarillo, Ca.

I went to Gordon's jewelers for the first time a little over a month ago. I purchased diamond solitare earings. When I got home I realized that the earings did not even match and that one of them was very yellow. I ended up bringing them back a little more than a month later, so I could only exchange them. I ended up trading them in for a diamond ring, it turned out the diamonds were all cloudy and had black specs everywhere. I ended up having to deal with some very rude employees when I was trying to just get my money back. I ended up leaving and just letting them keep the horrible jewelery they sold me. I will never go near a Gordon's Jewelers or Zale's again!!!!
