Lose Your Engagement Ring, Diamond Ring, Wedding band? Try This Internet Lost & Found Website!
The Associated Press today reports an item of interest: There is now an Internet Website where you can post your lost Engagement Ring, Diamond Ring and Wedding Band.
Maureen Silliman felt her empty pocket and gulped: Her new $300 iPod must have bounced out as she ran to catch a train.
While she sobbed, her boyfriend suggested a message on the lost-and-found section of Craigslist, an online bazaar of classified ads.
"No," the 24-year-old Silliman said. "Nobody would ever turn in an iPod."
Her boyfriend posted the message anyway. Within 24 hours, Silliman's iPod was back.
In an increasingly cynical world, there are still places where people try to do the right thing. Everyday on Internet message boards, honest folks post notes about valuables they found: cash, bank cards, diamond bracelets, engagement rings, wedding bands, digital cameras, and even a cockatoo valued at $1,200.
In turn, when there is no place left to look for something missing, the desperate sometimes take the longest of longshots and look online themselves.
Occasionally, it works for both sides. People such as Silliman get back their iPod, still loaded with Radio Head and Broken Social Scene.
The impulse to be honest doesn't surprise Lawrence M. Hinman, the director of The Values Institute at the University of San Diego.
"I think we perceive ourselves as being much worse than we actually are," Hinman said. "There are people who live lives of quiet honesty."
Take Monique Peddle, 48, in Hollywood, Fla., who posted a note online when she found a diamond studded gold bracelet that she could have just as easily slipped quietly in her pocket.. Or Blake Facente, 30, who also turned to Craigslist when he discovered a Dell Inspiron laptop leaning against his building in San Francisco.
The same for Agnes Satoorian, 27, who climbed into a cab in Boston last month and found a pricey digital camera that another rider had left behind.
"I know that pain," said Satoorian, who had recently lost her own camera loaded with sentimental pictures. "I decided I would try to make it right for someone."
Craig Newmark, the namesake and founder of Craigslist, said that the company added the lost-and-found message board in March 2003 after they noticed a proliferation of people looking for things that they were missing.
"The culture of trust is key, and the fact is that we work really hard at that," said Newmark, 53, who now has Web sites in 190 cities that boast more than 10 million users a month.
That means everyday there are new lost-and-found posts. Like the drawer in a school secretary's office where missing scarves wait to be claimed, the message boards accumulate a disparate collection of goods.
Some are outlandish.
The three teeth -- including a molar with a filing that needed replacing -- pick up in downtown Honolulu. The $100 bill found on a sidewalk on the Las Vegas strip. The man in Copenhagen who lost his ex-wife. Or the New Yorker who misplaced her clean-shaven cowboy and implored: "If found please send him to Queens."
In the lost column in Dublin, Ireland, a post under the heading, "$1 Million US reward," has a link to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted poster for Boston fugitive mobster James "Whitey" Bulger.
"I just want him caught," said the post's author, reached through e-mail, who declined to elaborate or give his name.
Other posts are authentic, and even touching.
The 39-year-old woman in Frankfurt, Germany, looking for her birth mother (Bridgitte Siglinde Stolba). The Homestead, Fla., mother searching for a lost dog named Sparky that detects her 17-year-old epileptic son's seizures and barks for help. The 1-carat diamond engagement ring that slipped off a woman's finger in the hills outside Berkeley, Calif.
Success of the Lost and Found is difficult to measure. Craigslist does not track its sites, and the free posting are only valid for 30 days.
But as stories about triumphs like Silliman's iPod circulate, more people keep playing the odds.
Last Fourth of July, scuba diver Stephen Klink found a solid platinum men's wedding band buried in sand beneath 30 feet of water off Cape Cod. Klink, 36, recently posted a note on the Boston-area Craigslist.
"It's a long shot, but I figured it's worth a try," Klink said from his home in Hillsdale, N.J. "Some married guy somewhere is getting whopped on because he lost his wedding ring."

Lost: Simple style engagement ring, white gold band with .2 carat round cut diamond. I have the paperwork with the gemprint. Probably the most distinctive visible feature of the ring is that it is a certified "Polar Bear" diamond from Canada, and has a tiny polar bear laser engraved into the edge of the diamond. It can be seen with a geologic hand lens or microscope.

STOLEN: Engagement ring insert/wedding band. Stolen from Tyngsboro MASS in 2003. Engagement ring is approx .75 carat center stone, marquis, with round channel set diamonds on each side. The wedding band, which the engagement ring is inserted into, flares out in either side to accommodate the marquis stone, and also has round channel set diamonds, 11 on each side. This ring was stolen from a home in Tyngsboro MA. Reward offered, have pics to identify the ring. The engagement ring was hand made and has a mark that bears the jewelers work.

Lost Platinum Diamond Wedding Band somewhere between the Adolphes hotel in Dallas and San Diego Park and Fly Shuttle. Guessing it was lost in Dallas / Ft. Worth Airport. It has a ton of sentimental value.

I lost my .75 carat princess cut diamond ring last year (July 2007)in or around the Metro Detroit area. The ring was given to be by my husband when he returned home from Iraq and it is very special to us. The ring is a princess cut diamond that is set in the middle of 2 hearts. Kind of hard to explain. I lost my engagement ring on the 18 july 2008..
I believe i lost it around the Ribault RD in Beaufort, sc. ( I was doing community service to help keep the town clean!!) so I believe it can be anywhere from Parris island Landing, to The Carolina Wings restaurant. My wife lost both rings, including engagement ring (Leo Diamond) in Mexico less than a week ago. If it's hard to find honest people here, I don't want to imagine in Mexico, but... hope floats and if someone ever found it, please contact me, the diamond has an ID and could be easily identified, but again, what are the ODDS! I lost my engagement and wedding rings in the Philadelphia international airport. The engagement ring is a white gold cathedral setting with a 1/2 carat princess cut (square) center stone and channel set round stones. The wedding band is white gold with channel set round stones. I am hoping that the person who found this ring is honest and will return it. This ring means so much to me, as my husband had it custom made for me. I have certifications and laser inscriptions on the stone that will prove ownership.

FOUND: Loose diamond at a public location in Arcadia, CA. At least, I'm assuming it's a real diamond - I haven't had it appraised, and I have only a rough guess as to its weight. It probably got knocked out of its mounting accidentally. If you believe it might be yours, you should be able to tell me WHEN you first noticed it was missing [the exact date, if possible; this is significant, for reasons which I will not state here], where you believe you might have lost it, and its shape and approximate weight.
I don't want to play finders-keepers with this stone without making an honest effort to find its rightful owner.

I left behind 2 rings in room #406 at the Springhill Suites in Florence, KY, on the nightstand. The cleaning staff and the hotel say they were not found so I'm trying to recover them another way. One is a 1.3 carat marquis diamond engagement ring with princess cut diamond band and the other is a Pampered Chef incentive ring with 13 round rubies and 6 round diamonds, it's irreplaceable and took me 7 years to earn it.

My daughter in law was hit in the head and her engagement ring stolen approx 2-3 yrs ago in San Francisco after a David Mathews concert.She can't remember anything cause she got a concussion Please help me find this ring as she is in the hospital very ill and I would like her to have it since she won't be around much longer.

I lost my engagement ring around this time last year.. I had been several places that day.. including Little gus- in Plano. Palm Beach Tan on preston in Plano. And to work which was Sakura japanese restaurant( now closed).. I was hosting there. This ring was a princess cut in the middle, however the diamond is set sideways, to where it looked like a diamond shape. it also had 3 smaller diamonds down the sides. it was a sz 6 or close to it. I have all papers/ receipts.. etc I have lost so much sleep, tears snd etc over this. It has been a horrible year, and I would give anything to atleast have some information about it. Please out of the goodness of your heart help me if you have found it.. or if you pawned it or ANYTHING! please.

My wife lost her wedding set on a recent trip to Maui. Lost on the south end of Napili beach by the lava rocks. It is three rings sodered together, a 1/5 caret princess cut solitaire engagement ring, a grapevine wrap w/ three small diamonds on each side, and a 5 stone (1/4 carat total) anniversary band. hi- i am visiting the washington dc area and yeasterday, july 26th, sunday, i lost my mothers vintage engagement ring. i think it just slipped off my finger! it is white gold, a diamond in the middle, a small diamond on each side. Hi, I lost my diamond wedding ring at the Orange County Swapmeet in Costa Mesa, Ca. It is 3 rings put together, white gold, it has a diamond in the middle, the above band is full of diamonds, and the below band is full of diamonds. Ocean City, Maryland lost in 1997 a princess cut diamond sitting up on a wedding ring that has side diamonds on swirls of gold. I have my wedding photo as proof. Please.
Specifically, I think I lost it in Dumser's Dairyland Restaurant after washing my hands (I shook the water off when there was no paper towels.) When we went back to the house to pack up to go, I noticed it was gone. We searched the rented house top to bottom; the video of the morning activites has the ring on my finger.
As my anniversay approaches I am again reminded of my lost. I am 4ever hopeful that some one will re-unite my ring with me.
We want to reward the person $1000 to have the ring with original diamonds returned to us. If diamonds are gone please consider returning the setting. We would appreciate it so much. Thank you so much. Our email does not have the space in it.

Lost my wedding ring/engagement ring at a Carmax on Independence Blvd in Charlotte, NC. Searched everywhere in the women's bathroom. I took it off to wash my hands and placed it in my purse. When I walked out of the bathroom, I realized it wasn't in that pocket any more. Searched high and low and didn't see it anywhere. Thinking someone picked it up. I just want it back - no questions asked. My husband worked so hard to be able to afford it and now its gone after only 1.5 years! Princess cut diamond on white gold double band. The double band is full of little diamonds and the center stone is surrounded by little diamonds. Can prove ownership with pictures and appraisals. Would be elated to have someone return it or if someone found it randomly - return it to Carmax on Independence.

I lost my engagement ring on May 2, 2009. I believe it came off my hand on a Southwest Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale to Nashville. The flight continued on to Las Vegas. I have contacted the police, airlines, etc. but no one has found my ring. It is an oval cut diamond with tapered diamond baggets on each side of the platinum setting. If anyone has found a ring like that, please contact me. I would gladly pay a reward for it's return. I have had it for 28 years and would give anything to find it. If someone may have found it, please return it to me. I can not put into words what this loss has meant to me. I will always try to find it. Please help me, if you have seen this ring.

My husband lost his gold wedding band a few years ago off of Cape Cod, in Sandwich Ma. It was a chunky gold ring with 3 good sized diamonds in it. The top of the band with the diamonds was thick and had squared off edges. It was custom made. He is heart broken that he lost it and would love to have it back.
