What Is A 'Euro Shank' on a Diamond Ring?

I have had a few people ask me recently what a 'Euro shank' is on a diamond ring or diamond engagement ring.

'Euro', from the word European refers to the bottom portion of a ring setting that is flat instead of rounded.

You will find many of the newer diamond engagement ring designs and certainly many high end jewelry designers creating engagement rings and other ring settings with a Euro shank.

This gives the ring a certain 'look' which many people love and many people don't care much for....

Here is an example of a diamond ring by Designs by Vatche with a Euro shank.

I have a Euro Shank Solitaire Engagement Ring and absolutely love it! The stone never falls around my finger like a round band, and for larger stones, it balances the weight nicely. The only challenge I am having, is finding a matching diamond wedding band. We will most likely have to have a custom made band now.
