Soyuz Watches. From Russia With Love
One of my new favorite watches (;-) is the Soyuz tourbillion with the balance bridge in the form of a twin-head skeletonized eagle and with retrograde indicators of day and date.
Just a stunning watch!
The famous Russian Company “Rekord” Watch-Making Company” Ltd., SOYUZ brand owner and one of the leaders of the Russian watch market, has presented its brand at the International Watch Exhibition BASELWORLD 2006 upon the overwhelming success at the INHORGENTA 2006 Exhibition.
The deal with this company is that they promote their brand based on its interesting history.
It seems that a secret armory near Moscow was manufacturing limited series of SOYUZ watches by the order of Stalin in the 1940's. Soviet leaders were granted with Soyuz as a distinction.
Now they are marketing and pitching this aspect of the watches history as a way of capturing market share and opening the brand to regular consumers like us!
They even feature a watch collection called KGB. They ask you to purchase one and become a "KGB agent".
In fact, at their recent 2006 booth at the watch expo in Basel, they had an actor dressed up like Stalin showcasing the watches for the passing crowd!
