Profiles In Courage: Fiancee gets Kidney Instead of Engagement Rings.
Today 22-year-old Demetria Valenzuela is to get a whole new lease on life rather than an engagement ring from her fiancee after he volunteered to give her a kidney.
Valenzuela has lupus and has spent nine hours on dialysis every day for the past four years. She and her beau have known each other for three of those years and have spent many evenings together watching movies.
Valenzuela's doctors told her she should ask relatives to be tested to find a compatible organ. Price volunteered to be tested and was found to be compatible. Valenzuela wants to marry, continue her education and have a child following the operation.
